History - The Dixie Chicken

It took from 1876 to 1974 for Aggies to have a bar across the street from Texas A&M University, that is, until the Dixie Chicken opened its doors on June 15th, 1974. It quickly became the go-to place for students and visitors to gather to have a cold beer and maybe get a little rowdy.

As the years went on, the legacy of "The Chicken" continued to grow. At one time, it served more beer per square foot, than anywhere else in America. That's a lot of post game celebrations or times sitting around the old 42 tables sharing good times with friends

Dixie Chicken stories are made daily and we love to read and share them. Take a look at some that have been sent to us here.
